Art I Would Choose

Art for a Meditation Room      I've always wanted a small room, or even an outdoor shed, to use as a meditation and yoga room. If I were able to gain this luxury, below are some of the artworks that I'd choose to display in the room. I want pieces that are more minimalistic but have color. For this room, I'm drawn to pieces that can flow together, be calming, but also enlightening and inspiring. I would prefer art that is large in this room, but not so large that it becomes overwhelming and overpowers the space.  As far as my budget would go, it'd be high, but it definitely wouldn't go out the window. Some things I'd ask for as gifts when Christmas rolls around, but other than that, I'd be funding it myself, along with my most generous husband, of course.      The first piece on this list is a print that I've been eyeballing for a couple of years. I love the vibes that it could bring into a room. It's calming and simple yet intricate and colorful. I ...

Art For Everybody

Murals of Minneapolis Growing up in the beautiful, culturally rich city of Minneapolis, I saw many gorgeous murals every day. Murals that held powerful messages. Murals that honored the dead or the living. Murals that simply wanted to recognize the creativity and inner beauty that the city of Minneapolis has, but also that we ourselves have. I hope you like and appreciate them as much as I do.      The mural you see below is probably one of the most famous of all Minneapolis' murals, the Prince Mural . It was created by Hiero Veiga in 2022 to honor the musician. Well-known Minnesota-based companies, such as Target, Best Buy, the Minnesota Twins, and U.S. Bank, contributed the needed funds to bring this mural to life. If you didn't know, Prince grew up in Minneapolis. So when he passed away in 2016, the city of Minneapolis deeply grieved his loss. He is a beloved and influential icon who represents the talent and passion that reside within the residents of Minneapolis. Thi...

Art and Power

Environmental Awareness Art I chose to focus on environmental awareness art as it's a topic that I'm passionate about. I see a lot of people shy away from this worldwide issue, as I occasionally do as well. It's a daunting topic that few people feel empowered enough to address. The problems seem impossible to attack because they're so much bigger than us. But if we don't face these types of large issues within our world, then how could anything ever change? Of course, an individual typically doesn't have the power to change a company's or government's mind alone. However, when a million individuals team up to fight against the same issue, often changes do take effect. Environmental awareness art moves the masses in ways that words sometimes cannot. It gives people a visual to better understand environmental issues that desperately need to be addressed. This painting is titled,  The Future's in our Hands  by  Zoe Elizabeth Norman from the United Kin...

Religious Art Is Calming

Image
I've always found religious art to be quite the opposite of calming. It seemed to evoke so much guilt and fear within me, and sometimes it even felt boring to me, bringing up no feelings at all. Although I grew up Catholic, so I was mainly exposed to the artwork of only the Catholic religion. For this assignment, I wanted to discover new types of Religious artwork.     The three artworks I chose gave me a sense of peace and calm that I've never experienced from Religious artwork before. The first one I want to address is Lakshmi on her Lotus in the Water with Elephant by   Raja Ravi Varma . This piece was created in Bombay, India, in 1896. The oil painting is beloved for its divine and serene portrayal of Lakshmi. It is one of the most well-known works of Ravi Varma. It's a staple in both Indian homes and temples, symbolizing prosperity and good fortune(The Atrang, 2024).      In this painting, we see the Hindu  Goddess of fortun...

Art Analysis: Immaculate Conception

Image
Immaculate Conception -  Antonio Jose Landaeta                The Immaculate Conception is a painting done by Antonio Jose Landaeta likely in 1795 in his home country of Venezuela. I spent a while analyzing it when I visited the Denver Art Museum. It's an amazing vivid oil painting that really captured my eye. Landaeta's use of depth and color easily draws you into this image. The colors he chose to use in this painting works perfectly to tell the story he's trying to convey.        The blue shown on the woman automatically tells us she's the Virgin Mary and the gold behind her really makes her prominent in the painting. Also the blue on the sphere beneath her hints to us that it may be a representation for Earth.        I love the red fabric accents he's painted as well, they simultaneously bring across texture and movement. In fact all of the fabric seems to be in movement making everything in this pa...

Hello! I've made this blogpost for my Art History Class to introduce myself to you. Something interesting about me is that this isn't my first blog. Back in high school I was very into it actually. Blogging about my personal life, politics, and the occasional fiction story. But then I decided to keep my life private and off the internet, so I began journaling and am now on my third journal. Besides writing, I enjoy photography, music, and organizing. I previously worked as a fulltime photographer for a bit and have worked some freelance photography jobs as well. As far as music, I really enjoy artists with a story to tell. Some that really speak to me would be Hozier, Courtney Love, Bob Marley, Tupac, and even Etta James. As I said, organizing is also an enjoyable hobby for me. If my space is unorganized, my brain is unorganized and if the things around me don't inspire me, then my creativity won't be at its best. I'm frequently guilty of spending hours in sea...
